Let’s talk lamb tripe for dogs!
It’s been a staple ingredient in my raw dog food kitchen since 2016, and all of my dogs love(d) it.
In this blog post, I’ll explain what green lamb tripe is and how you can include it in your dog’s food, regardless of whether or not they’re raw-fed.

What Is Green Lamb Tripe For Dogs?

Green tripe is the unprocessed stomach lining of ruminant animals like cows, sheep, goats and deer.
In raw feeding, green tripe is classified as muscle meat.
Depending on the model you follow (BARF vs Prey Model), it makes up about 70-80% of the raw dog food components.
That said, green lamb tripe is the unprocessed stomach lining of lambs.
It’s naturally rich in digestive enzymes and essential Omega- 3 & 6 fatty acids.
That makes it highly nutritious for dogs of all ages, and helps support a shiny coat and healthy skin.
You can either source it in chunks or ground.
Note: This is not the kind of tripe that grocery stores carry.
That particular type has been cleaned and bleached for human consumption, and doesn’t offer any nutritional benefits for dogs.
What’s In The Lamb Green Tripe From Raw Paws Pet Food?
The raw green lamb tripe from Raw Paws Pet Food consists of nothing but green lamb tripe.
Since it’s ground, you don’t have to process it at all. Obviously, that makes it convenient and easy to portion out for raw dog food meal prep.
The green tripe is sourced from lambs raised locally in Indiana (that’s where Raw Paws Pet food is located) without antibiotics, steroids, or added hormones.
The green lamb tripe sticks from Raw Paws Pet Food are about 6″ long and 1/2″ thick.
Since they’re dehydrated, that makes them a bit less smelly than the raw kind, and great to treat your pup with.

How to Feed Your Dog Lamb Green Tripe
Green lamb tripe is a great alternative to beef green tripe if your dog is allergic or sensitive to beef.
Other than that it’s great to include in your protein rotation as different cuts of meat have varying nutrient levels.
Now, you can feed lamb green tripe a few different ways.
Either use it for raw dog food meal prep or mix it in with your dog’s premade raw dog food.
You can also use it to top your dog’s kibble or canned dog food off with.
That’s actually a great way to entice picky eaters to dig in.
Since green tripe is naturally rich in digestive enzymes, it also helps transition your dog from kibble to raw dog food.
How Much Green Tripe To Feed Dog
You can feed about 20-30% of your dog’s daily raw dog food allowance in green tripe.
The ground kind from Raw Paws Pet Food comes in a tube, and I personally think it’s easiest to portion it out when it’s still partially frozen.
That’s also when it’s A LOT LESS smelly than when it’s fully thawed.
If you’re feeding puppies, you can also mix some lamb green tripe with goat milk.

Green Lamb Tripe For Dogs: Bottom Line
Lamb green tripe is the stomach lining of lambs.
It’s very rich in digestive enzymes, which makes it a highly nutritious cut of muscle meat.
You can include 20-30% of it in your raw dog food meal prep.
If you don’t feed raw dog food quite yet, you can also use it to top off your dog’s kibble or canned dog food. It works wonders as a meal topper for picky eaters, just FYI!
