NOVO Brazil celebrates anniversary with party
NOVO Brazil Brewing Company celebrates its ninth anniversary with a family-friendly party at 5 p.m. Saturday at 901 Lane Ave., Chula Vista. The outdoor event is free to attend and will feature music from Latin band Cuband4ever, which performs regularly at Café Sevilla in the Gaslamp Quarter. ‘Dog Gone Fun’ at Otay Ranch center
The annual “Dog Gone Fun” event returns to Otay Ranch Town Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Pups and people can enjoy a Canine Costume Contest, get a free canine fitness/weight evaluation from a veterinarian, demonstrations and training tips from Golden State Service Dogs, treats for dogs and crafts for kids, and adoptable dogs on site from the San Diego County department of Animal Services. Celebrate Parks & Rec month in Chula Vista
Chula Vista’s Parks & Recreation Department invites everyone to a free community event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to celebrate Parks and Recreation month. The event takes place at Memorial Park, 373 Park Way. There will be games, arts and crafts, free demos and activities for the whole family, and if you sign up in advance, free swim lessons (sign up at tinyurl.com/cvswims). Those taking part in the swim lessons will receive a free lunch courtesy of the Chula Vista Firefighters Foundation.
Free car washes at new Convoy Street site
Soapy Joe’s Car Wash is officially opening its newest location at 3803 Convoy St. starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, the locally owned company’s 20th location in San Diego County. To celebrate, Soapy Joe’s Car Wash will be giving away free washes at the Convoy site and giving a Magic Joe Annual Membership (a $385 value) to every 20th customer who goes through the car wash tunnel. Special education resource fair
The South County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Community Advisory Committee is hosting its annual special education resource fair from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 at the South County Regional Education Center, 800 National City Blvd., National City. This free event for families and children will include representatives from South County school districts and exhibitors from the community. The Partnerships 4 Success program led by the Institute for Public Strategies will host a free South Bay Summer Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at Montgomery Waller Park, 3020 Coronado Ave., San Diego. The event features a Teen Corner, school supply distribution, yoga, zumba, live music and dance performances, as well as resources from local community-based organizations. Women’s Club hosting bunco fundraisers
