Kangaroo raw dog food is a great protein for dogs with lots of food sensitivities.
That’s because it’s not commonly used in premade raw dog food meals.
So yes, kangaroo dog food for allergies is a thing!
It’s also great for overweight dogs because kangaroo is a lean protein source for dogs.
Beyond that, it’s classified as red meat.
But where can you buy kangaroo meat in the United States, Canada and Germany, and how do you feed it?
Also, is kangaroo meat expensive?
That’s what we’ll look at in this blog post.
Plus, as a bonus, you’ll get to peek into one of my raw dog food bowls where I used raw kangaroo meat.
You know, for raw feeding inspiration if you’re looking for some.

What’s In Kangaroo Raw Dog Food?
First of all, here’s what kangaroo doesn’t have a lot of: fat.
That said, there’s only about 2.5% of fat in ground kangaroo meat.
Here’s how that compares to the fat content in other ground meats:

Beef: Depends on how lean/fat your beef is.
Beyond the low fat amount, kangaroo has a decent amount of trace minerals such as iron and zinc.
Nutritional Benefits of Iron in Dogs
Iron helps create red blood cells and helps transport oxygen throughout the body.
Kangaroo has about 2.4mg of iron per 100g of meat.
Note: Spleen is the best source of iron for dogs. 100g of beef spleen for example have about 44.5mg of iron.
For comparison’s sake, here’s how much iron is in ground meats from other animals:
- Chicken: 0.82mg/100g
- Salmon: 0.8mg/100g
- Turkey: 1mg/100g

Where to Buy Raw Kangaroo Dog Food in the US
It’s a bit tricky to find raw kangaroo dog food in the US because it’s not exactly a common raw dog food ingredient.
But that also makes kangaroo a novel protein, aka a hypoallergenic dog food!
All that said, personally, I’ve bought raw kangaroo meat from Raw Feeding Miami, but I know of a few raw dog food retailers that carry it.
Here’s the list:
Raw Feeding Miami (Miami, FL)
Oma’s Pride (Avon, CT)
Boneless ground kangaroo (leg meat)
Fetching Foods (Las Vegas, NV area)
Only Dog Kangaroo 16oz (available raw and gently cooked)
Here’s what’s in it:
- Kangaroo leg steak (“premium human-grade”)
- Kangaroo heart
- Kangaroo liver
- Whole fresh eggs
- Yellow squash
- Beets
- Carrots
- Kale
- Pomegranate
- Blueberries
- Parsley

There’s a good article about astaxanthin on Dogs Naturally Magazine.
And here’s the guaranteed analysis:

Blackwing (Antioch, IL)
Kangaroo Dog Formula (boneless)
Exotic Meat Markets (Not sure about their location)
Exotic Meat Markets carries all sorts of raw meats intended for human consumption.
But hey, if it’s human grade, it’s perfectly fine to feed it to our dogs, too! The one downside is that it’s on the expensive side.
But if you have a big budget, this place is wonderful for sourcing unique meats to use in your raw dog food meal prep.
You can find their raw kangaroo meat selection here.
Kangaroo Dog Food Canada
As far as where to find kangaroo dog food in Canada, here are the raw dog food retailers who carry kangaroo that I’m aware of:
Kangaroo Raw Dog Food Germany
Since I currently live in Germany, here are the German raw dog food retailers I’m aware of that sell raw kangaroo meat:
How Should I Feed Kangaroo Raw Dog Food?
From browsing the shopping options above, you probably noticed that most retailers offer boneless kangaroo only.
So essentially kangaroo muscle meat.
That means you’d still be needing to add (secreting) organs, raw meaty bones and oily fish or fish oil.
Also, kelp as an iodine source unless you feed thyroid glands.
So having said that, here’s some recipe inspiration!
Raw Dog Food Recipe Inspiration with Kangaroo
Total amount: 140oz = 8.75lb
- Ground or chunked kangaroo: 79.5oz = 5lb
- Mackerel: 14oz
- Turkey neck: 18.5oz = 1.1lb
- Lamb organs (liver, kidneys, spleen, heart, lung): 14oz
- Eggs: 3 ( I used duck eggs, but you can use any egg)
- Spinach & dehydrated red beets: 14oz (I rehydrated the beets with bone broth, but water works too)
- Kelp: Add fresh to daily meals:
- Dogs can have 1/4 teaspoon per 10 lbs of body weight per day. That said, their daily kelp intake should not exceed 3 teaspoons of kelp.
Note: You can grab kelp powder from Raw Paws Pet Food here and save 15% with my affiliate discount code K9Savings.
I used the Olewo red beets for dogs. They’re a great addition for an anti-itch protocol for dogs.
Feeding guidelines:
- Feed 4 oz for every 10 lbs dog weight (dogs up to 30lbs)
- Feed 3.2 oz for every 10 lbs dog weight (for dogs between 30-100lbs)
- Feed 2.8 oz for every 10 lbs dog weight for dogs over 100lbs
